Abstract

851,150. Boring- and turning-mills. AMERICAN STEEL FOUNDRIES. March 3, 1958, No. 6738/58. Class 83 (3). A manual tool-positioning and indicating- device for turning- and boring-mills comprises a casing 14, slidable to convenient operator positions along the cross-rail 10, and provided with handles 164, 168, for vertical and horizontal traverse respectively, and associated indicators 26, 27, for registering such movements. Vertical movement of the tool-ram is effected from a splined feed-shaft 20 which passes through a bracket 18, at the back of the casing 14. The bracket carries a bevel-wheel 34 splined to the shaft 20 and engaging a bevel-pinion 62 secured to a cross-spindle 60 in the slidable casing 14. The other end of this spindle carries an indicating-device 26. Gearing 132, 134, 148, 154 connects spindle 60 to a cross-shaft 162 carrying a hand wheel 164 for operating the vertical movement. Horizontal movement of the tool head is effected from a handle 188 carried by a sleeve 180 surrounding cross-shaft 162. Gearing 178, 192, 196, and bevels 124, 48, rotate the screw 22, which gives the cross-traverse. A cross-shaft 121, to which the gears 196, 124 are secured, carries an indicating-device 27 similar to that for the vertical movement.
