[Also in Group VI] A fog or smoke generating device in which water is added to oil and the mixture heated on heat exchanging surfaces comprises a casing in which are two concentric, double-walled hollow cylinders arranged so that heated gas (e.g. combustion products from an oil burner) may pass first through the central space within the inner cylinder and then through the space between the inner and outer cylinders. The inner cylinder holds oil or an oil/water mixture spread on its inner surfaces and the outer holds water. Steam generated from the water enters the inner cylinder and mixes with oil evaporating therein thus forming a fog which is expelled into the atmosphere. Referring to the Figure, water enters the outer cylinder 1 via the inlet 3 and passes as steam through the nozzle 4 into the inner cylinder 2 which carries a spiral oil distributer 6 and into which oil or oil/water mixture enters via the inlet 5, the fog produced issuing from outlet 7. The gases, heated by the heat source 8 (shown as an oil burner but it is stated that electrical heating may be used) pass up the central path 9, are deflected downwards through the space 11 between the cylinders by the deflection cap 10 and at the lower end are deflected into the outer space 13 by the funnel-like boundary wall 12 from whence they pass into the atmosphere via the chimney 15. The outlet pipe 7 may accommodate the head of an aerosal reservoir or other injection means whereby other agents, e.g. anti-parasitic agents and dyes may be added to the fog.
