Abstract

N-Acyl- N'-cyanoacetyl-hydrazines of the formula CN-CH2-CONH-NHCORa where Ra is an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl group, are prepared by reacting cyanoacetyl-hydrazine with an acyl chloride or anhydride. Examples are given of this reaction using acetic anhydride in acetic acid, propionic anhydride in propionic acid, benzoyl chloride in pyridine, phenylacetyl chloride or iso-butyryl chloride. Specification 730,489 is referred to.ALSO:Hemicyanine dyes of the general formula: <FORM:0849741/IV (c)/1> wherein R is an alkyl group, Ra is an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, m and n are 0 or 1 and D completes a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic nucleus, are prepared by condensing a heterocyclic quaternary salt having a reactive a - or g - alkylthio, alkylthiovinyl or acetanilido-vinyl group with a compound of the formula CN,CH2, CONH,NHCORa. Examples are given of the preparation of dyes wherein Ra is methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, phenyl or benzyl and D completes a benzthiazole, benzoxazole, indoline,3- methylthio -5- pyrazolamine or quinoline nucleus. According to the Provisional Specification, R may be also aralkyl, hydroxyalkyl or carboxyalkyl. Specification 730,489 is referred to.
