Abstract
848,521. Control of several A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. April 1, 1958 [April 1, 1957], No. 10584/57. Class 38 (3). [Also in Group XL (a)] Equipment for controlling movement of nuclear reactor control-rods comprises a lowfrequency A.C. voltage generator, a separate motor for raising or lowering each control-rod, and control-circuits for connecting each of the motors to the generator so that small groups of the rods move sequentially. A manually - operated controller CSWO has three operating positions in which clutches DF, DS and US may be energized to couple a transmitter coil R to a constantlyrotating motor DM for " down-fast," " down-slow " or " up-slow " motion. When raising the control-rods the switch R1 is closed first and a motor PM is energized by the transmitter coil R of the generator and the motor rotates until the control-rod reaches upper limit position when a switch LS2 is closed. Closure of this switch LS2 causes a step-wise rotation of a cam controller CCO which in turn energizes the holding coil for the rods of the first group de-energizes the lifting-motors PM for this group energizes the lifting motor for the next group and de-energizes the holding coil for that group. By using two A.C. generators the rods can be raised or lowered in two separate groups independently and concurrently so that their travel may overlap. The A.C. generator and its associated circuit is shown in Fig. 1, wherein an A.C. supply 1 is fed to the rotor 2 of the generator whose stator 3 supplies the primary bore of a transformer. The secondary of this transformer and the secondary of a transformer 12, 13, 14 are connected through rectifier bridges to provide an output across a load 9 as shown by 12 in Fig. 3. The outputs I7, I8 from these rectifier bridges are in the same sense and are shown in Fig. 3, Specification 842,649 is referred to.
