Abstract
848,085. Pipe joints. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Nov. 12, 1957 [Nov. 21, 1956], No. 35672/56. Class 99(1). A joint member 10, Fig. 1, for connecting pipes which are required to tilt in a single plane comprises a corrugated pipe 11 with parallel spindles 13 secured thereto at right angles to the pipe axis, at least one cable 14 being wound on to the spindles to provide a plurality of stretches of cable 14b extending diagonally between opposite sides of the spindles. In Figs. 1 and 2, a single cable is wound on the spindles 13 to provide a series of stretches of cable 14b between the spindles with turns of cable 14c around the spindles between each stretch 14b. In a modification, Fig. 5, the spindles 13 have a series of endless cables 20 extending therebetween, each cable providing two diagonally extending stretches 20b with a turn 20c of cable around each spindle.
