Abstract
841,543. Cabinets; drawer selection. BREVETTI BERTELLO S. p. A. Oct. 4, 1957 [Oct. 15, 1956], No. 31087/57. Class 52(1) The drawers of a filing cabinet are mounted in a carrier frame 2 moved vertically by a worm screw 4 until a required drawer is level with a slide 42 which then automatically opens the drawer. The worm is rotated by an electric motor 6 controlled by cams 14, 15, formed of conducting material but having non-conducting strips 16 in their surfaces on which brushes 17 connected in the electric motor circuit bear, which are caused to rotate by the vertical motion of the carrier frame 2 until the non-conducting strips 16 are contacted by the bushes 17 when the motor is switched off. The cams are mounted on a shaft 12 provided at one end with a sprocket 13 connecting the shaft to a selector handle 9 which is rotated to determine the amount of cam surface over which the brush 17 moves before reaching the strip 16 and thus which drawer is opened, and at the other end a sprocket 25 connected with a toothed chain engaging along its length a fixed sprocket 29 on the drawer carrier. A second motor drives the drawer slides 46 through chain 34, shaft 36, sprocket 38 and chains 40 fixed to the side of the slides. A spring catch on the slide engages a projection on the drawer and the extent of the opening is governed by switches 46, 47. A switch 51 is provided for retraction of the drawer.
