Abstract

841,104. Respiratory appliances. GALLEHER, E. A. Nov. 4, 1958, No.35443/58. Class 81(2). A mask 1 is adapted to fit the contours of a face or other anatomical area by having a peripheral cushion 5 containing particles of compressible material such as foamed, rubber or latex P and valve means Q for controlling the passage of air between the cushion 5 and atmosphere. The valve Q comprises a headed sleeve 10 with a threaded axial bore 11 which receives a screw 15 movable so that-a bore 16 in the screw communicating at one end, a screen 14 being interposed, with the filler P may communicate at the other end 17 with atmosphere. In use, the inhaler mask shown is placed over the face, with the valve open, and light pressure is applied to contour the mask to the shape of the face. The valve is then closed to retain the contour obtained.
