[Also in Group XXXII] A truck with a tipping body is emptied while still in the cage, by which it is hoisted, the tipping mechanism being mounted either on the cage or at the pit-head. As shown in Fig. 5, the body 21 of a truck in a cage 5 is tipped by engagement of a bracket 34 on the cylinder of an inverted hydraulic ram 30 pivoted to the cage at 33, with a tipping bar 24 on the truck body. The contents of the truck slide through side doors 23 operated by known lever means 26 on to a retractable shoot 12. Tipping is limited by engagement of a buffer 43 with a part of the cage. The oil reservoir and pump are carried on the cage, and the contacts to the electric driving-motor are actuated by the shoot 12 contacting the cage, so that the ram cannot be operated until both the cage and the shcot are in position. A locking finger 35 on the bracket 34 is operated by a fish-tail cam 38 engaging a roller 39 pivoted to the cage, and the ram is guided after disengagement with the truck by a spring buffer 41 and rollers 44 which engage behind cheeks 46 on the cage. The cage may comprise several decks, each fitted with a ram. In another embodiment, Fig. 7, the ram 54 is mounted piston uppermost at the pit-head and is brought into and from its working position as shown by an auxiliary ram 58. The lifting bracket and its locking finger 60 are mounted on the piston 59, the fish-tail cam 61 being operated by a roller 62 mounted on an extension 63 of the cylinder. With both embodiments locking devices (not shown) are provided to ensure that neither the ram nor the cage may be operated at an inopportune moment, and stops are provided to prevent longitudinal or tipping movement of the truck chassis.
