[Also in Group XXXV] In a system for causing the position of a body to follow variations in the level of a conducting liquid, an otherwise stationary contact moved with the body forms with the surface of the liquid a switch controlling bias applied to an electronic valve which, in turn, controls the position of the body. In Fig. 2 if the level of the liquid E<1> rises to make contact with an electrode F<1> the negative grid bias of a triode valve N is reduced so that a relay S is energized to cause a reversible motor J<2> to raise a body H carrying electrode F<1>, until the electrode is withdrawn from the liquid. If, on the other hand, the level of the liquid falls to break contact with a slightly longer electrode F<2> the current through a triode valve P is increased so that a relay T is energized to cause motor J<2>, to. lower the body H until electrode F<2> is immersed again. The position of the body H is thus automatically adjusted to keep the level of the liquid between the ends of the two electrodes. Simplified systems employing only one valve and a non- reversible motor, suitable when the liquid level tends to change in one direction only, are described. Resitance-condenser networks or additional electrodes may be arranged to ensure a predetermined minimum extent of operation of the motor. Specification 778,913 is referred to.
