Class 86 The rubber mixer described in the parent Specification has the discharge opening of the mixing chamber 20 closed by a door 23 yieldingly mounted for movement relative to its support 24. To control the movement, springs are now introduced between the abutting faces of the door and its support. The springs 34, Figs. 2 and 3, may be placed between an upstanding rib 33 on the support and downwardly extending flanges of the door, so that the springs hold the door centrally of its support while allowing relative movement during opening and closing of the chamber 20. Strips 41 of low friction material such as nylon may be placed between the door and the support. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 4, elongated leaf springs 43 of corrugated form are placed in opposed grooves 42 extending along the abutting faces of the door and its support, so that each spring bears at points along its length against the door and against the support and so stresses the two members in opposing directions. The springs and the connecting bolts 37 allow a slight pivotal movement of the door relatively to its support in the plane of the abutting surfaces. Helical springs housed in individual sockets may replace the leaf springs. By tightening the springs 39 on the bolts 37, the helical springs can be stressed as needed. In Fig. 10, the door and its support are hinged together by a pivot pin 55 extending through interlocking knuckles and the springs are placed in recesses 58 in the door 23 and surround the bolts 57. Alternatively the recesses may be in the support and the stressing springs are then omitted from the outer ends of the bolts together with the pivotal connection of the door and support.
