Abstract
837,574. Stoves. GLOW-WORM BOILERS Ltd. Jan. 23, 1959 [Nov. 20, 1957], No. 36096/57. Class 126. A thermostatically controlled heating appliance such as a water heater has an arm 16 responsive to thermostatic action and operatively connected, as by an adjustable screw 18, to a valve member 17, which controls the intake of primary air to the combustion chamber surrounded by the boiler 6, and to a valve member 19 which controls the intake of secondary air to the upper part of the combustion chamber, the arrangement being such that the movement of the arm 16 which acts to close the valve member 17 also acts to open the valve member 19. The valve member 19 is mounted on inclined hinges 20 so that it tends to close by gravity and is opened by the engagement of an adjustable screw 21 carried by the arm 16 with a tailpiece 22 on the door. The thermostat is carried by a bracket 23 and has an adjusting screw 24. The recess (not shown) in the boiler 6 through which the secondary air passes to the upper part of the combustion chamber contains heat-exchanging fins to pre-heat the secondary air
