Abstract
835,806. Pipe connectors. WILD & CO. Ltd., A. G. Aug. 28, 1958 [Aug. 7, 1957], No. 24849/57. Class 99(1). In a quick-acting connector for controlling the opening and closing of a valve 14 in a pressure fluid inlet fitting 11 and arranged to be connected between the fitting and a stop valve 40 which controls the supply of pressure fluid to the connector, the latter comprising a plunger rod 17 slidably mounted in a casing 18 and operated by a hand-lever 20 through a toggle linkage 22, 24 the arrangement being such that when the plunger rod is moved in one direction it operates to open the valve in the inlet fitting 11 against the action of a spring 16 which again closes the valve when the rod is moved in the opposite direction, the stop valve 40 is incorporated in the connector and one of the two complementary parts of the valve is fixed to and moves with the rod 17 so that when the rod is operated to open the valve 14 the stop valve part fixed to the rod moves away from the complementary part thereof and the stop valve is thereby opened. As shown, the casing 18 comprises symmetrical halves bolted together and having guide grooves in which a pin 21 is engaged, which pin mounts the forked ends of the lever 20 pivotally connected to the links 24 pivotally carried on pins 24<SP>1</SP>. The lower end of the rod 17 extends into a valve casing 25 formed with chambers 26, 27 between which extends bores 28, 29, the bore 28 being screw-threaded to receive the rod 17 ; a fitting 30 for a valve seat 31 and having a flange 32 is fixed in the smaller bore 29. A collar 33 screwed on to the end of the casing 18 slidably receives the casting 25, and a spring 9 on the rod 17 bears against a shoulder 9<SP>1</SP>, and a circlip 9<SP>2</SP>. Formed within the chamber 27 are two diametrically opposed grooves 34, 341 which continue as passages 38, 381 in the casing 25 to slidably receive valve tappets 39. The floating disc stop valve 40 co-operates with the seat 31 and is formed with apertures 41. For ready connection to the fitting 11, the casing 18 is provided with internal flanges 46 which slid on shoulders 47 of the fitting. In operation, when the lever 20 is raised to open the valve 14, the casing 25 and seat 31 move with the rod 17 and the tappets 39 are lifted by the pressure of the fluid flowing into the inlet 43 ; the tappets abut the collar 33 and the valve 40 bears on the tappets so that fluid passes through the apertures 41 therein and the bores in the seat 31, fitting 30 and rod 17. When the lever is moved downwardly to close the valves, the flange 32 of the fitting 30 bears against shoulders formed by grooves 45 in the tappets to move the latter away from the collar 33.
