Abstract

834,053. Magnetic toys or games; educational models. MARTIN, P. R. Sept. 2, 1958 [June 3, 1957], No. 17513/57. Classes 132(2), 132(3) and 146(2) A model which travels on a non-magnetic sheet 8 is drawn along by a magnet 7 beneath the sheet. Such models can be made to compete against each other and can be used to demonstrate traffic control, safe driving, or military or naval tactics. As shown, the front wheels 5 of a model car are of soft iron, are mounted on magnetic half axles 6 and are attracted by a spool shaped magnet 7 which is constrained to roll along the underside of the sheet 8 by a wheeled bogie 10 running on, driven from, and remotely controlled through electric rails 11, the car front axle housing 2 being pivotally mounted, on balls 4 seated in apertures in a spring clip 3, so that the car can follow the path of the bogie. One bogie may push or pull others and there may be several bogie tracks. The car is released from the bogie when it passes over a soft iron panel let into the sheet 8, the bogie then being free to pass under and drive another car. In an alterative embodiment, the car axle and the spool may be of soft iron, the spool having a solenoid winding which is remotely controlled to "release" and "capture" cars.
