Abstract
831,774. Paper bags; packaging. HESSER MASCHINENFABRIK-A.G., F. March 12, 1958 [March 23, 1957], No. 7943/58. Classes 94(1) and 94(2). A method of fabricating bags of heat sealable material with a closed top and/or bottom seam crossing a closed longitudinal seam, includes the step of applying an additional layer of a heat sealable material to the bag material at the inner face of a part thereof which in the finished bag will comprise a portion of the top and/or bottom seam intersecting the longitudinal seam, the additional layer being disposed to extend transversely across the intersection and being in sufficient quantity to cover the zone of intersection. As shown the top seam 2 to be heat sealed is provided on its inner side with an additional heat sealing strip 1 in the region of the longitudinal seam 4. The layer 1 is preferably of a length such that it also covers the part 6 of the seam 4. The adhesive fills the gaps during heat sealing which might otherwise exist. The strip 1 may be applied to the bag blank or to the web from which the bags are made.
