Abstract

Resinate salts of b -phenylethylamines are made by combining a derivative of b -phenylethylamine with an acidic cationic ion-exchange resin, for example, either a styrene polymer cross-linked with divinyl benzene and containing sulphonic acid groups, or a cross-linked polymerized methacrylic acid. The b -phenylethylamine derivative may be a drug such as ephedrine, adrenaline, isoprenaline, amphetamine or methylamphetamine and may be reacted with the ion-exchange resin in solution as the free base or as the hydrochloride. The resinate salts of drugs may be used in pharmacy since the drug is slowly released in the body.
