Abstract

823,090. Railway vehicle undercarriages. METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. Dec. 31, 1957 [Oct. 2,1956], No. 30007/56. Class 103(6) In a three-axle railway bogie resilient members, comprising rubber slabs 8 separated from one another by plates 10 to opposite sides of which adjacent sides of the slabs are bonded, are positioned between the upper surface 9 of a central axle box 2 and cross-stretcher members 7 which unite the downturned ends 4, 5 of equalizing beams 1, 3. Bottom plates 11 of the resilient members are housed in a recess 12 in the axle box and each top metal plate 14 has a central circular frusto-conical recess which houses a spigot 16 on the under surface of each stretcher member. With this construction movement of the ends of the equalizing beams due to tilting in the longitudinal direction of the bogie with respect to the axle boxes and also movement due to tilting of adjacent axles are accommodated by deformation of the rubber slabs. Each axle box has an upstanding flange 17 surrounding the resilient members and stretcher members 7 may carry strips 20 above the flange for protection purposes. The resilient members may be arranged at an angle to the vertical or be replaced by two rubber slabs in V- formation.
