822,934. Loom shuttle guards. HALL, J. Sept. 25, 1957 [Sept. 25, 1956], No. 29271/56. Class 142(2) A shuttle guard that is collapsible towards the slay cap comprises front and rear bars 36, 38 mounted on pairs of links 26, 28 urged together by a spring 82 anchored to pivot pins 40, 42. The links are mounted on brackets 10 movable vertically on the slay cap 14 to provide adjustment. Two or more pairs of links are provided according to the length of the guard. One bar 38 is secured above the links and the other bar 36 below the links so that when the guard is collapsed one bar lies above the other. The spring 82 passes through a dead-centre position just before the bars 36, 38 reach the slay cap and so retains the guard in its collapsed position. The guard expands to its operative position automatically as the slay moves back on starting the loom.
