Abstract

816,720. Electrical surgery apparatus. SIEMENS-REINIGER-WERKE A.G. April 26, 1957 [April 26, 1956], No. 13404/57. Class 81 (2). Apparatus for electrical high-frequency surgery comprises generating means for damped and undamped high-frequency current oscillations, a plurality of output channels for connecting a plurality of active electrodes to the apparatus, means associated with each output channel for preselecting the oscillation form and the power of the current to be utilized and switching means for connecting the preselected current to the output channel. High-frequency oscillations produced by an oscillator 90 are fed through one of three voltage regulators 40, 40a, 40b to an amplifier 100 and thence to output sockets 70, 70a, 70b to one of which an electrode 80 is attached. Selectors 30, 30a, 30b in parallel are associated with the oscillator 90, each selector being set to provide output oscillations of a different kind, e.g. undamped oscillations, which are used in cutting, and damped continuous or intermittent oscillations which are used for coagulating blood. Each selector 30, 30a, 30b may be set so that it introduces a condenser 35 or 36 into the oscillator circuit to damp the oscillations as required. The electrode 80 has manually-operable contacts 83, 84 which on engagement complete a relay circuit 60, 60a or 60b associated with the output socket 70, 70a or 70b with which the electrode 80 is connected. The relay circuits may alternatively be completed by foot switches 65, 65a, 65b. One relay circuit 60 includes a relay 61 which when energized by a battery 62 opens contacts 54, 55 in the other similar relay circuits 60a, 60b, closes contacts 50, 51 to connect one selector 30 and one regulator 40 in the electrode circuit and also closes a switch 56 so that a second relay 57 is energized by the battery 62. The second relay 57 closes switches 58, 59 so that the oscillator 90 and the amplifier 100 become operative. The other relay circuits 60a, 60b alternatively may be completed in a similar manner when the electrode 80 is connected to the appropriate output sockets 70a, 70b, the appropriate selectors 30a, 30b and regulators 40a, 40b being connected in the oscillator circuit. Lamps 66, 66a, 66b, indicate which relay circuit is operative. If desired, the electrode 80 may be connected with a fourth output socket 70c which is arranged in a circuit 110 containing a multi-contact switch 111. According to the setting of the multicontact switch 111, one of the relay circuits 60, 60a, 60b becomes operative on closing the electrode contacts 83, 84 or a fourth foot switch 65c so that oscillations modified by the selector 30, 30a or 30b and the regulator 40, 40a or 40b associated with the operative relay circuit are supplied to the electrode. In an alternative construction (not shown) a spark-gap generator and a tube generator may be selectively connected to one of two output sockets for an electrode, the output being adjusted by voltage regulators. Relay circuits, operated by a switch in the electrode, operate switches so that oscillations are supplied to the appropriate output socket.
