Abstract

813,344. Pipe joints; plastic pipes. SPEDDING, B. Feb. 11, 1957 [Nov. 16, 1955], No. 32769/55. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). A pipe 10 of polyethylene is provided with spaced apart, external, circumferential beads 12, 14 adapted to support the pipe within a hole 18 in the wall 16 of a tank by engagement with the opposed surfaces of the wall. The distance between the roots of the beads is greater than the thickness of the wall and the beads are shaped so that the adjacent faces are closer together at the peripheries thereof than at the roots. As shown each flange is progressively reduced in cross-section towards the periphery thereof and, to assist in deforming the pipe for passage through the hole 18, circumferential grooves 31 are provided between the flanges ; to ensure that the pipe is a tight fit in the hole, circumferential ribs may be provided between the flanges. The pipe 25 may be provided with an internal flange 27 having a bore equal to that of an extension pipe 29.
