Abstract

807,124. Electrostatic precipitation. STURTEVANT ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 27, 1956 [Sept. 27, 1955], No. 27479/55. Class 39(1). Flushing liquid is syphoned over the upper edge of the precipitator collecting electrode 1 by porous material 10, such as metal gauze, which depends into a bath of flushing liquid contained in the chamber 2. The collecting electrode, upper chamber 2 and a lower chamber 3 are all made of corrosion resistant material such as polyvinyl chloride or resin bonded fibre glass. The collecting electrode material may be impregnated with carbon to render it conducting. The discharge electrode 11 consists of lead sheathed wire and may be suspended directly from the roof of chamber 2. A spring 15 is provided for tensioning purposes. Clean air or gas is supplied to the chamber 2 above a baffle 13 to keep the walls of this part of the chamber free from deposit. The lower end of the discharge electrode 11, Fig. 2, is made fast to a tubular insulating framework 16. Clean air or gas emerges through apertures 18 to keep the framework clean in the region of the baffle 17. The apparatus may include more than one tubular collecting electrode.
