Class 79(5) [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXIV] A motor vehicle having a number of hydraulically power actuated components including, for example, steering devices, has a hydraulic system providing a common source of pressure for the components. A low pressure pump 11 supplies liquid through a line 12 to a low pressure cylinder 63 of an intensifier 14, high pressure cylinders 64, 66 of which discharge through check valves 73, 74 to a line 16 supplying a power steering mechanism 18 and other hydraulically actuated components 17, 19. As shown, liquid is supplied from line 12 through a line 109 to the right hand end of the cylinder 63 to move an intensifier piston 69 to the left; high pressure liquid being discharged from cylinder 64, and low pressure liquid entering cylinder 66 past a valve 72. At the end of its stroke piston 69 opens a valve 78 and liquid passes from a line 86 through a line 87 to move a valve 91 to the right against the action of a spring 97. This opens a passage from line 12 through a line 98 to the left hand end of a valve 92 to move it to the right against the action of a spring 104. A line 108 is thus connected to line 12 and line 109 is opened to exhaust so that piston 69 begins a return stroke. At the end of the return stroke a valve 79 is opened, allowing the liquid trapped in line 87 to pass to exhaust and springs 97, 104 to return valves 91, 92 to the position shown. A gas-loaded-piston type accumulator is connected to line 16 and provides an immediate supply of pressure liquid for actuating the components 17, 18, 19. Closed-centre valves control the actuation of components 17, 18, 19 so that when none of the components are being actuated there is no flow through the supply line 16.
