Abstract

800,767. Recording-apparatus. ASPINALL, H. T. April 4, 1957 [April 17, 1956], No. 11072/57. Class 106 (4). Recording-apparatus comprises a chart in the form of an endless belt 3 replaceably fitted around a supporting roller 1, a mounting 8 carrying a stylus 12 positioned above and adapted to rest in contact with the chart 3, a detecting mechanism 13 operating to move the stylus relative to the chart and a constant speed motor connected to rotate the chart 3 and move the stylus mounting 8 transversely across the chart. As shown, the roller 1 is driven by the motor 14 through a gear train and drives the chart 3 through pins 4 engaging perforations along the sides of the chart 3 which is held taut by a jockey roller 2. The mounting 8 is fixed to a cylindrical slide 7 on a guide bar 6 and is further supported and driven by a tooth 11 depending from a shoe 10 fixed to the mounting 8 and engaging a worm shaft 9 driven from a branch of the motor-driven gear train. The spindle 20 of the roller 1 rests in half bearings 21 in slides 22 movable in guides 23 and bridged by a bar 25. When the slides 22 are pulled out to change the chart 3 the driving gear train is broken and the bar 25 engages an arm 24 depending from the mounting 8 which is rocked about the bar 6 disengaging the tooth 11 from the worm 9 and lifting the stylus 12 clear of the chart 3. During recording, the stylus 12 deviates from its spiral path relative to the endless band chart 3 in accordance with variations applied to a moving coil instrument 13 connected across a tachogenerator in circuit with a calibrating resistance 35 and rectifier. The stylus is shown in the form of a gravity fed pen, with ink reservoir, mounted on a cranked arm 31 and suitably counter-balanced.
