Abstract
798,735. Cams. COLLINS RADIO CO. Aug. 21, 1956 [Oct. 6, 1955], No. 25558/56. Class 80 (3). [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL (c)] An adjustable cam composed of a large number of elliptical washers threaded on a long bolt is used in a method of providing temperature compensation which varies with the tuning of an oscillator. The oscillator is tuned by rotation of a shaft 84 retained between end-plates by snap-rings 86. A nut 89 having a bifurcated arm 91 is longitudinally moved by rotation of the threaded shaft 84, rotation of the nut 89 being prevented by the rod 90. The follower 93 is pivoted between the bifurcations of the arm 91 by a pin 94 and is constrained against the fixed cam 98 by means of the spring 96. The cam 98 comprises a large number of elliptical washers which may be positioned on a bolt attached between the end-plates to provide the required law between the shaft 84 and the moving electrode 102 of the compensating capacitor. For production models a solid cam may be made having the same law as the empirically adjusted prototype.
