Abstract
796,117. Photographic diazotype materials, GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. April 13, 1956, No. 11348/56. Class 98(2) A photographic diazotype material comprises a base coated with a light-sensitive layer containing a diazonium compound a coupling component, a finely divided wax of melting point above 110F. and a dispersing agent capable of dispersing the wax in an aqueous medium, the wax comprising 1-28 per cent by weight of the total non-volatile ingredients in the lightsensitive layer. Waxes specified are paraffin wax, carnauba wax, spermaceti, beeswax, cerosin wax, chinese wax, flax wax, godang wax, Java wax, insect wax, ceresiii wax, and montan wax. The dispersing agent may be of the cationic, anionic or non-anionic type, and many suitable agents are specified including condensation products of ethylene oxide with long chain aliphatic amines, fatty acids, alcohols, phenols, or anhydrosorbitol, esters of fatty acids with amino alcohols such as triethanolamine, or with anhydrosorbitol, pentearythrytol or dispentaerythrytol, the reaction products of fatty acid ethanolamides and formaldehyde, various sulphates and sulphonates, and polymers or mixed polymers of acrylic, methacrylic and maleic acids. Where the wax contains a long chain fatty acid, a dispersing agent may be obtained in situ by adding an alkylolamine, morpholine or diethylamine. The wax is despersed in water by means of the dispersing agent, and added to the diazonium compound and coupling component, and any of the usual additives, and the resulting dispersion is coated on a suitable base. Colloid carriers such as polyvinyl alcohol may be included in the light-sensitive dispersions. Lists of suitable diazo compounds and coupling agents are given. The light-sensitive solutions may be coated on paper, cellulse acetate, textiles made from cotton, cellulse acetate batiste. regenerated cellulse or rayon, and other fibrous woven or felted textile materials. In the examples, aqueous dispersions of paraffin wax or spermaceti wax, with sorbitan monopalmitate the reaction product of ethylene oxide and sorbitan monopalmitate, and polyvinyl alcohol; paraffin wax with triethanolamine, polyvinyl alcohol and zirconium stearate; beeswax with oleic acid, aminopropanol and borax; and a mixture of camauba wax, beeswax and paraffin wax with a polyoxyalkylene sorbitan monolaureate or morpholine are added to sensitizing solutions containing a diazo compound, a coupler and the usual adjuvants, and coated on a base. U.S.A. Specification 2,537,919 is referred to.
