Abstract

794,561. Prestressed concrete. BRAUNBOCK, E. Dec. 13, 1954 [Oct. 15, 1953; Oct. 19, 1953], Nos. 28485/53 and 28814/53. Class 20(4) The groups a of wires or rods of a prestressing cable A are anchored in cylindrical holes in an anchoring ring b by rivets or bolts c of cylindrical or (as shown) conical shape shot in or inserted between the wires or rods in such a way that the rivets or bolts after being driven in each surround a substantial portion of the circumferential surface of the wires or rods and secure them within the hole. The rivets or bolts may be of iron, steel, copper or a metal alloy and may have slight grooves to determine the position of the individual wires or rods of a group of wires or rods. As shown the cable A comprises ten groups each having four wires, spacing units B being provided along its length to keep the individual groups of wires separate. Spacing units B comprise spacing members e and d, the members d being in the form of bolts extending between plates g, small spacing members f are provided between the wires of each group as shown. An anchoring ring may be provided at one or both ends of the cable. In use the anchoring ring or rings b is or are located in a hole or holes provided in the end or ends of the structure to be prestressed. The anchoring ring or one of the anchoring rings is located between member C and G of a device for applying tension to. the cable. A threaded bar D connected to a hydraulic jack passes through the member G and is screwed into the member C. When the cable has been tensioned by the jack, the tension is transmitted to the structure by a nut K on the bar D bearing against a plate F, the space surrounding the anchoring ring is then filled up with grout and the bar D and the plate F are subsequently removed. In a modification the member G may be provided with holes and some of the groups of wires anchored thereto.
