Abstract
794,001. Welding by fusion. DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE AKT. - GES., and RUHRSTAHL AKT.-GES. July 20, 1956 [July 22, 1955], No. 22590/56. Class 83 (4). In arc-welding or autogenously welding the longitudinal or circumferential seams of large tubular members, e.g. boilers, electrical induction heaters are used to progressively heat the seam prior to welding and after welding at the same time as the seam is being welded. The circumferential seam of a boiler 1 is rotated under a welding electrode 4. The seam is preheated to about 300‹ C. by an induction heater 8 and is after heated either to an annealing temperature of 700-750 ‹ C. or a normalizing temperature of 1000-1100‹ C. by an induction heater 9. The heat-treating temperature is maintained by an induction heater 10 and to prevent too rapid cooling the welded joint is covered by a layer 13 of say asbestos cloth. The heaters consists of water-cooled induction loops adjustable to the diameter of the seam. The apparatus may be adjusted for longitudinal welds to be made.
