Abstract
793,231. Valves; fluid-pressure servomotorcontrol systems. GRAVINER MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., MATHISEN, A., and WILKINSON SWORD, Ltd., [formerly WILKINSON SWORD CO., Ltd.]. Sept. 15, 1954 [Sept. 17, 1953], No. 25745/53. Class 135. Apparatus protecting a plant, e.g. a grinding or pulverising plant, against fire and/or explosion by blocking a pipe interconnecting one part of the plant with another part in which means, e.g. as described in Specifications 749,597, [Group XL (b)], and 643,188, [Group XXI], for detecting an incipient fire or explosion completes an electric circuit to ignite an explosive charge, comprises a blocking member normally maintained in its unblocked position by non-explosive means which on ignition of the explosive charge are released to urge the blocking member into a position to block the pipe. As shown in Fig. 1, a blocking member comprising an apertured plate 12 is held in unblocked position with respect to a pipe 10 by a catch 13 against strong springs 14. On ignition of an explosive charge 15 the catch is released and the springs 14 urge the plate into its blocked position. As shown in Fig. 2, the blocking member comprises a rubber sleeve 24 clamped or otherwise secured to end flanges in a pipe-line 23. The sleeve is surrounded by an annular chamber 26 connected by an aperture 25a with a normally sealed gas reservoir 27. On ignition of an explosive charge 28 a plug 27b sealing the reservoir is severed and the gas released from the reservoir enters the chamber 26 to urge the sleeve 24 to block the pipe.
