Abstract
791,635. Scribers. OWEN, E. D. Jan. 6, 1956 [Aug. 18, 1955], No. 573/56. Class 61. In a scribing device for marking or scoring lines on sheet material a guard plate 70, which in operation underlies the sheet, is provided at one end with a bent lip 90, a spring plate 60 having a bent lip provided with a scoring or scribing edge 88 overlies the sheet, the scribing lip being urged by spring means into overlapping relation with the lip of the plate 70. The device comprises a bar 12 carrying handles 92 and having side arms 14 extending upwardly from the bar, a lever 16 being pivoted intermediate its ends between the arms 14. A linkage consisting of a bar 42 bent to rectangular shape connects the end of the lever 16 to the marker housing 48, a spring 62 urging the housing and marker towards the plate 70. The ends of spring plate 60 and guard plate 70 remote from the ends carrying the lips, are connected to the bar 12. The marker housing 48 comprises a plug 54 having a flat top and curved bottom positioned between a pair of upstanding flanges 58 of the plate 60. To lift the plate 60 against the pressure of spring 62, finger pressure is applied to the part 38 of the lever 16.
