Abstract
791,167. Temperature sensitive resistors. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 23, 1955 [June 26, 1954], No. 18200/55. Class 37. A sintered electrical resistor consisting of oxidic compounds with Perovskite structure contains Fe and/or Cr, or Co and Fe and/or Cr, at least one of these metals occurring in trivalent and tetravalent form. Manganese in tetravalent form may also be included, and also Al, Ti and/or Ni up to 20 per cent of the total of Fe, Cr, Co and Mn. A flux such as copper oxide, zinc oxide, clay and glass may also be added. The combination of trivalent and tetravalent forms of the metals Fe, Cr and Co may be achieved by the use of a mixture of trivalent metals (such as yttrium, lanthanium, praseodymium, neodymium), and bivalent metals (such as Ca, Sr, Ba, Pb and Cd) for the large metal ions designated by A in the Perovskite structure general formula ABO 3 . A large number of examples of such compositions are given in the specimen. As one example a mixed crystal of LaFe<SP>3</SP>+O 3 and SrFe<SP>4</SP>+O 3 is formed by sintering in air La 2 O 3 , SrO and Fe 2 O 3 at temperatures between 1250 and 1400 C. The material may be obtained from the composing oxides in the form of double oxides, carbonates or other compounds. The constituents are ground, mixed to a paste, for example with an organic binder, shaped and sintered in an oxygen atmosphere. The material possesses a high temperature coefficient and low resistivity.
