780,570. Making aluminium or aluminium alloy sheet; working at specified temperatures. OESTERREICHISCHE METALLWERKE AKT.-GES. April 4, 1956 [April 6, 1955], No. 10314/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A method of making aluminium or aluminium alloy sheet or strip material comprises homogenizing a billet at a temperature between 550‹ to 640‹ C., subsequently hot rolling said billet at a temperature above 350‹ C., allowing the hot rolled material to cool and cold rolling the material to final thickness. The material may be annealed at 400 ‹ C. after the cold rolling to impart a fine grain structure. Alternatively the cold rolling may be carried out in two stages with an intermediate anneal at a temperature between 400‹ to 550‹ C. In an example a billet of aluminium of 99.3 per cent purity is homogenized for 16 hours at 610‹ C. and then hot rolled, beginning at 610‹ C. down to a sheet about 6 mm. thick, the final temperature of hot rolling being about 400‹ C. After cooling, the sheet is cold rolled to a final thickness of 0.8 mm. and is annealed at 400‹ C. for about 6 hours. The sheet or strip so prepared may be formed into hollow bodies by drawing or spinning without the development of cars.
