Abstract

In an apparatus for spraying liquids an intermittently operated conveyer carries a series of article holders on which articles to be sprayed are mounted, the articles being temporarily stopped at a spraying station and are continuously rotated while being sprayed and for spraying articles of different shapes at different times there is provided a plurality of displaceable mounting members each for a spraying de <PICT:0777826/III/1> vice, a plurality of disc cam operating devices for differently displacing the mounting members such mounting members and operating devices being employed selectively to suit the articles to be sprayed. Articles are mounted on holders 17 on a support 5 rotated step by step by a motor 7 driving a shaft 11 with an arm 10 engaging a slot in a disc 12 driving members 6 connected to the supports. The articles in the spraying position are rotated by a pulley driven by the shaft 11 engaging a pulley on the holder. The holders are raised by a cam when inoperative so they are not rotated and are out of contact with a stop 20 to operate the spraying device. The spraying device is supplied with compressed air by a cam 25 on the shaft 11 which operate a valve 26. The spraying device is moved vertically on a column 28 by a chain and linkage controlled by a cam 31 on the shaft 11. The contour of the cam may be varied to alter the rate of movement. The spraying device may be mounted for arcuate movement or for oscillation the latter by a linkage connecting the column with the periphery of the cam 25. To limit the area of the article sprayed one or more rotatable discs may be mounted between the article and spraying device. The articles may be dried, baked, printed upon and covered with flock. The flocking chamber may be situated beside the spraying chamber and may have swing doors for the passage of articles therethrough and an air jet for directing the flock and for withdrawing unused flock. The conveyer may be straight instead of circular.
