Abstract
774,849. Rotary engines and pumps. GILES, J. G. July 26, 1955, No. 21529/55. Class 110 (2). [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXIX] A combined rotary and reciprocating pump or motor 1, Fig. 2, comprises a rotor 1 having lobes 3 which are adapted to rotate with and reciprocate in slippers 4, the pumping cylinders formed in the slippers and the pumping chambers disposed between adjacent slippers being interconnected by passages 10. The slippers 4 are spring urged into contact with a guide ring 5 which is adjustably mounted in the pump casing under the control of liquid fed into spaces 15. The rotor may be formed integral with or splined to its shaft 2. A variable transmission unit, Fig. 4, incorporates a pump and a motor as described above which are separated by a web 16 provided with fluid passages 10, 17 and constituting a housing for relief valves, selector valves and other controls. The two guide rings may be interconnected by pins or bolts and the side plates 18 may house bearings. The two units may be of different diameters or widths from one another.
