Abstract

772,470. Suction dredgers. MINERAL TECHNOLOGISCH INSTITUUT. May 5, 1955 [May 28, 1954], No. 13071/55. Class 68 (1). A cutter device mounted adjacent the lower end of a suction pipe of a suction dredger comprises a driven shaft 1 rotatably mounted in the lower end of a ladder 2 supporting the suction pipe 5 and cutter elements 7 mounted in to extend radially of and at a fairly large pitch angle to hubs 6 at the ends of the shaft; and to the trailing edge of each of said cutter elements 7 is secured a plate 12 that extends transversely of the axis of the shaft 1 and terminates close to the leading edge of the succeeding element. The pitch angle of each cutter element decreases towards the outer end of the element 7, so that the element is spirally curved in the trailing direction.
