Abstract
761,297. Sifting apparatus; mixing machines. BEHRENS, H. Aug.19, 1954 [Aug. 21, 1953; April 24, 1954], No. 24178/54. Classes 86 and 117 For the screening or mixing of materials, which are pulverulent or in a liquid suspension, a rigid or resilientlydeformable channellike receptacle is used upon which vibrations are impressed that have a component transverse to the channel axis whereby a rolling motion is imparted to the material. The invention may be used to convert ceramic substances into a thixotropic condition. In one embodiment a channel member 2, Fig. 1, is suspended between uprights 1 and the material in two streams 4, 5 has a gyratory and possibly a helical advancing motion imparted thereto by, for example, a rotating unbalanced mass 3. The channel may alternatively be inclined, to provide a gravity feed from one end to the other. A horizontal screening channel 9, Fig. 4b, mounted on springs 13 is vibrated by a generator 12 arranged at an angle α to the vertical so that the vibrations have components in the direction of, and transversely to, the channel axis.
