Abstract

758,213. Generating combustion products under pressure; furnace linings. PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. Dec. 15, 1954 [March 3, 1954], No. 6208/54. Class 51(1). A cylindrical combustion chamber or furnace, for example a flame tube of a gas turbine combustion chamber comprises a plurality of longitudinal metal channel plates b secured at each end to one of a pair of metal end rings d, each channel plate supporting a set ofmutuallyabutting refractory bricks a. The thickness and cross-section of the channel plates is such that they are stiff in the longitudinal direction but flexible in the circumferential direction. The ends of each set of bricks a are disposed so as to provide a clearance from the end rings. The channel plates b have inwardly-curved longitudinal edges j and the edges of the bricks a are correspondingly shaped and are also formed with projecting lips i. Two or more cover plates f having perforations g are disposed around the f having perforations g are disposed around the plates being secured to the end rings d by the same bolts c. The two end rings d are connected together by a pair of longitudinal bridge members e. The bricks a in each longitudinal set have inter-engaging features k, m. Air passes through the perforations g and through the spaces between adjacent sets of bricks for cooling. The projecting lips i shield the edges of the channel plates from the heat of the flame.
