Abstract
Polyamides or their salts containing at least one acid amide group with a radicle of an organic acid which forms a water-insoluble amide and also containing at least one acid amide group with a radicle of an organic acid which forms a water-soluble amide are prepared by reacting polyamines with acids anhydrides or esters and heating. Suitable polyamines are ethylene diamine, symmetric diethyl ethylene diamine, hydroxyethyl ethylene diamine, propylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, and tetra ethylene pentamine. Acids which form water-soluble amides are formic, acetic, propionic, butyric, valeric, glycolic, lactic and malonic; whilst acids which form water-insoluble amides are caprylic, lauric, oleic, stearic, erucic, montanic, resinic, and naphthenic and also tall oil.ALSO:The adherence of bituminous substances to solid materials is improved by adding to, or forming in, the bituminous substance or the ingredients serving for its preparation and/or the solid material or a portion thereof, a polyamide and/or a salt of a polyamide which contains at least one acid amide group with a radicle of an organic acid which forms a water-insoluble amide, and also containing at least one acid amide group with a radicle of an organic acid which forms a water-soluble amide. Suitable polyamines for the preparation of the polyamides (see Group IV(b)) are ethylene diamine, symmetric diethylethylene diamine, hydroxy ethylethylene diamine, propylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine, diethylene triamine triethylene tetramine and tetraethylene pentamine; acids which form water-soluble amides are formic, acetic, proprionic, butyric, valeric, glycolic, lactic and malonic and their esters and anhydrides; acids which form water-insoluble amides are caprylic, lauric, oleic, stearic, euric, montanic, resinic, naphthenic (this can come from the bituminous substance itself) and tall oil, their esters and anhydrides.
