Abstract

755,111. Side-delivery rakes. McCALL, F., and McCALL, L. Jan. 26, 1954, No. 2330/54. Class 6 (3). A side-delivery rake for gathering hay in loose rolls comprises tines 40 which have a compound curvature lying generally on a spiral and extend in echelon with respect to the forward movement of the rake, the lower extremity of each tine making an acute angle with the plane of the ground. As shown, each tine is welded to a supporting bar 43 which is pivoted on a crosssupport 50. The cross-supports 50 are pivoted on supporting members 16, 17 which are pivoted to frame members 12, 23 which are connected by an extensible connection 25 which can be adjusted to vary the spacing of the tines and vary the angle of the members 16, 17 with respect to the frame members 12, 23. The position of each supporting bar 43 is adjusted by means of a stud 46 and a spring 55 is provided so that each bar may yield in meeting an obstruction. The rake is connected to a tractor by a hitch 11 and is provided with ground wheels 14, 30, the wheel 30 being rotatably mounted in a support 32 which is rotatable about a pivot 35. In a modification, the tine 40 and supporting bar 43 are connected together and provided with a removable wearing tip.
