753,370. Sanitary closets. POTTS, R. W. Feb. 25, 1954, No. 5588/54. Class 26. A dry sanitary closet suitable for use in aircraft and trains comprises, as shown, a bowl 16 having an opening 17 in its bottom, a supply of tubular film 20 around the bowl extending upwardly over the flange 18 thereof and downwardly in the bowl through the opening 17 and mechanism 27 for periodically drawing the film downwardly through the bowl. The mechanism 27 comprises vertically moving jaws 43 which are moved downwardly by a control handle and are actuated by followers engaging in grooves 46 to close and draw the film downwardly and at the bottom of their travel to engage rods 56 causing sealing jaws 49 to be brought to their sealing position shown in broken lines, the jaws 43 separating as the followers reach grooves 48. An incinerator may be provided, instead of the receptacle 26 shown, and the film 20 may be of plastic such as cellulose, vinyl or acetate, or of treated water-proof paper provided with adhesive for sealing.
