Abstract

Beta stabilised titanium alloys are heated to 1200 DEG -1750 DEG F. and then age-hardened at 750 DEG -1150 DEG F. The alloy may be heated to 1500 DEG F. quenched to a temperature below 100 DEG F., e.g. in ice water, if desired, machined, and then aged for 2-52 hours depending on the ageing temperature selected, or the alloy may be aged by a process similar to isothermal transformation at the ageing temperature. Alloys containing 3-15 per cent of beta-stabilising elements, e.g. Cr, V, Mn, Fe and Mo, may be used and alloys containing 4,5 per cent Cr, 3,22 per cent V; 5,6 per cent Mn, 2,8 per cent Cr; and 1,38 per cent Cr, 0,99 per cent Fe, 2,95 per cent Mn, 0,9 per cent Mo, and 0,98 per cent V, the balance in each case being Ti are referred to. Alloys so treated are stated to be stable at temperatures up to 500 DEG F.
