In a spectacle frame in which the upper edges of the lenses are held in engagement with the lower edges of the brow-bars 4 by retaining pieces 3 at the ends of the bars, the retaining. pieces engage notches 5a in the lenses, are secured to the front faces of the brow-bars 4 by screws or rivets, and have stepped undersides so, that one end of each piece 3 overhangs the outer edge of the bar 4. Only one retaining piece 3 may be used with each lens, each browbar 4 being provided with a suitable projection to fit into the other notch in the lens. Preferably, the engaging surfaces of the notches and retaining pieces are complementarily bevelled. The retaining pieces may be of metal or transparent plastic material and their front faces may be flush with or slightly behind the front faces of the lenses.
