Abstract
749,568. Fuel injection systems. SOLA, G. Jan. 18, 1954 [Jan. 17, 1953; Aug. 14, 1953], No. 1425/54. Class 7(3) [Also in Group XXVIII] A fuel injector 5 is supplied by an injection pump having in its outlet a doubleacting valve 2, serving to relieve pressure in the delivery pipe 3, and a piston valve 15 movable between upper and lower seats so disposed that at the beginning of the pump working stroke the piston moves away from its lower seat to open the delivery passage 16 and then strikes against its uppe.r seat, producing a pressure wave in the delivery passage 16. The chamber 10 above the injector valve 8 is closed and fuel leaking thereinto assists a spring 9 in loading the valve 8, some of the fuel leaking back to the space 5 when the pressure in the pipe 3 is relieved at tht end of injection.. The chamber 10 may have resilient walls and may be filled with a lubricant. The valve 15 may be provided with a small passage to release the residual pressure in the pipe 3 or such pressure may be relieved by leakage upwards past the valve to release passage 17. In a modification the piston valve 15 is loaded by the pressure of lubricating oil and in Fig. 5 the upward movement of the valve 15 is clamped at the end of its stroke by a closed liquid-filled chamber 36
