Abstract
744.414. Rotary pumps. FORD, R. C. June 17, 1954 [March 18, 1953], No. 7450/53. Class 110(2) In a pump of the flexible-chamber type, each roller 9, which presses on the inner layer of the chamber, is resiliently mounted by having its spindle bearings 14 supported on springs 15 or a rubber-like material. Fig. 3 shows the bearings carried by pairs of blocks 13 which are slidable between arms 11 of a carrier 12 mounted on a, driving shaft 17. An end piece 22 acts as a stop for the blocks 13, a rubber cushion 24 preferably being interposed as shown. Adjustment of the spring loading is secured by holes 25 into which a screwdriver may be inserted to engage a screw 26. The rollers press a lining 5 into a groove 4 to pump fluid from an inlet 2 to an cutlet 3. The lining is clamped into position by expansible rings 6 and also held at 7. Alternatively, the pumping chamber may be formed of a rubber or like tube. The pump body 1 may be secured to a cradle 21 by means of straps 27 and a screw connector 28. Fig. 6 shows a modified roller mounting comprising a tube 33, secured by a pin 37 to the shaft 32, which is grooved to accommodate the rollers 9. The ends 14 of the roller spindles are shaped as shown to allow slight tilting of the rollers. One spring 35 may be used, the block 36 then being dispensed with or a rubber block or blocks may be used between a pair of springs 35. Specifications 590,045, 612,604 and 744,413 are referred to.
