Abstract
739,408. Glass-metal seals. BACHMANN, O. Feb. 5, 1954 [Feb. 18, 1953], No. 3440/54. Class 36. Electrodes are sealed into glass or quartz tubes by means of two mutually movable hollow jaws 1, 2 between which the heated tube is squeezed, the jaws being connected to a gas supply pipe 3 and having discharge openings 5 on faces 11, 10 which are slightly inclined to the direction of squeezing movement, so that gas jets emerging from the openings 5 are substantially transverse to said direction. Each jaw may be provided with inlet and outlet pipes 6, 7 for a coolant which circulates in the jaws about gas duct 4.
