Class 100 (1) In apparatus for delivering metal or other sheets from a conveyer on which the sheets are supported edge on, the delivery means is arranged and operated in timed relation to the conveyer so that a sheet at the discharge end of the conveyer is engaged by the delivery means and moved from the conveyer by a continued forward movement, the sheets being maintained edge on and with a rearwardly sloping disposition during the delivery movement. As shown, sheets 8 (Fig. 1) are supported in trays 7 of a conveyer 1 passing over sprockets 2, 3. The sheets are then taken by a lower conveyer comprising a pair of endless chains 9 running on sprockets 10, 11, 12, 13 and having dogs 22 which engage the lower edges of the sheets. Supported from a frame member 16 on members 18, 20, 28 and 29 is an upper conveyer 23 provided with a plurality of rods 30 engaging the upper rear surfaces of the sheets. The conveyers are driven from an electric motor 31 through a clutch 32 and reduction gear 33, sprocket 34 and chain 35. The chain 35 passes over a sprocket 36 on a shaft 21 which carries sprockets for driving the conveyer 1, and the upper and lower delivery conveyers 9 and 23. The sheets, after reaching the limit of travel of the conveyer 9 are transferred to the upper run of a discharge conveyer, the rear edges still being supported by the rods 30. The discharge conveyer comprises a plurality of endless bands 49 supported between two pairs of side frame members 50, 51, the latter being adjustable relatively to the former by a rack and pinion arrangement 52, 53. The discharge conveyer is provided with five bands 49 the central band passing round a pulley 58 of larger diameter than the pulley wheels 57 around which the other bands pass so that the pulleys 57, 58 and rollers 101 may impart a bowed formation to the sheets prior to their delivery onto a table 74. The bands 49 also pass over guide rollers 60, 63, 65, 66, a jockey pulley 69 on a weighted arm 70 and guide pulleys 71. The receiving table 24 is suspended in a frame 75 and may be automatically lowered in accordance with the height of the pile. The height detector consists of a plunger 76 pivoted at 77 to one end of an arm 78 secured at its other end to a rocking shaft 79. Freely mounted on the shaft 79 is a bracket 83 carrying a switch 84. The bracket 83 is provided with a stop pin 85 which engages with the edge of an arm 86 keyed to the shaft 79 and the stop pin is maintained in engagement with the arm by a tension spring 87. The assembly is oscillated by means of a link 89 so that when the sheets reach a predetermined height free movement of the plunger 76 and consequently the arm 86 is restrained, the bracket 83 still moving so that the button 88 of the switch 84 is operated to complete a circuit for lowering the pile. The link 89 is oscillated through a linkage comprising an arm 90, universal ball joint 94, telescopic drive shaft 95, universall ball joint 96, arm 98, link 99, and a crank pin 100 of an eccentric mounted on the shaft 21.
