Abstract

732,369. Ventilating vehicles. 0'SHEI, W. E. July 29, 1953 [July 29, 1952; Sept. 22, 1952], Nos. 19160/52 and 23699/52. Classes 20 (3) and 137. The front side doors of saloon-type vehicles provided with the normal type of verticallyslidable window 5 in combination with a louvre panel 3 pivotally mounted on a vertical axis 4 are also provided with a louvre-type panel 7 made e.g. of glass, plastic, or other transparent material, and pivoted vertically adjacent its front edge between the upper and lower window frame members or, between the top of the window 5 when lowered and the under side of the top of the window frame. Pivotal mountings for the vane 7 comprise upper and lower support members 8a, 9a, secured respectively to the upper and lower window frame members, the upper support member 8a being located for limited axial movement in a mounting 18. Spigots 12, 13, on fittings 8b, 9b secured to the top and bottom edges of the vane 7 engage in corresponding recesses 10, 11, in the members 8a, 9a, the abutting faces between these members being provided with complementary recesses and projections for retaining the vane 7 in its selected angular position. In order to assist the projections and recesses to ratchet when the vane 7 is turned, and to facilitate the removal of the vane 7, the upper support 8a can be moved vertically a limited amount against a spring 16 located in the mounting 18 and urging the member 8a downward. The vane 7 can be moved by hand when the window 5 is open or, alternatively it can be operated by means inside the vehicle. In the arrangement according to Fig. 5, the vane 7 is engaged between the upper edge of the pane 5 and the top window frame member. A lower fitting 21 comprises a channel member 22 lined, e.g. with rubber 23, to fit over the top edge of the pane 5, and a disc 24 secured to its upper surface and abutting a disc 26 above it secured to the lower edge of the vane 7. The two discs 24, 26, connected by a pin 29 to permit slight axial movement between them, are provided with complementary projections and recesses as are a similar pair of discs 30, 31 in an upper fitting 20, the lower disc 30 of which is secured to the upper edge of the vane 7 and the upper disc 31 having a strip 33 for engaging a channel 34 in the upper window frame member.
