Abstract
730,593. Feeding tacks. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). July 31, 1953 [Aug. 2, 1952], No. 19617/52. Class 78 (1). A tack-feeding device comprises a raceway having a tack-feeding groove 40 (Fig. 7), a discharge passage 46, a separator 50 having a recess 70 and moving to receive a tack in the recess from the groove and to position it to be discharged by a discharge block 80 through said discharge passage 46. As shown, reciprocating separator 50 (Fig. 7) discharging from grooves 40, 42, carries in a slot therein the arm 72 pivoted at 76 and carrying said block 80 so that when cam 86 formed on arm 72 meets the tip of spring 88 said block 80 moves to eject the tack contained in .recess 70. The reciprocation of separator 50 is derived from the reciprocating tack nozzle 20 of a shoe lasting machine (Fig. 2), said nozzle 20 being secured to plate 112 carrying pivotally arm 120; and stud 127, which works in a slide in said arm 120, is carried by one arm 128 of a bellcrank lever pivoted at 124, the other arm 190 of which lies between and swings pairs of arms 192, 194. The ends of the latter embrace and reciprocate block 198 which in turn, through linkage 200, 84, reciprocates separator 50. This movement is transmitted with arm 120 urged against one of two end stops 152, 154 by the pressure spring- impelled plunger 136 and is secured thereat by spring-impelled arm 170 having tooth 172 engaging in alternate recesses 180, 182. The plunger 136 is connected by levers 138, 156, 158 to shift arm 166. The operator moves the latter and so swings over the plunger 136 which in turn so positions the separator 50 to discharge tacks from the other tack groove 42. The pair 'of arms 192, 194 are connected by spring 196 so that when a tack jams, one of the arms yields to stop the reciprocation of separator 50. In order that the tacks should be presented in overlapping formation down groove 40 (or 42) the groove is formed with a notch 310 (Fig. 10) which serves to so orientate the tacks.
