A method of strengthening and preventing erosion and destruction of sea or other defensive walls built of earth, clay or the like consists in applying a layer 11 of impermeable material across the top of the wall and incorporating in the rear face of the wall a series of louvre elements 14 also of impermeable material, these elements being arranged in rows along the wall and spaced one above the other.
