Abstract

Fabrics are printed or padded with a vinyl or divinyl polymer or copolymer emulsion which contains also a high molecular basic compound which, as such or as a salt, is soluble or emulsifiable in water, and there is caused to react therewith, on the fabric, a compound containing two or more reactive groups capable of forming cross-linkages with the basic compound; but when the high molecular basic compound is capable of forming cross-linkages with itself, the use of a separate cross-linking agent is not necessary. The invention comprises also a printing paste comprising an aqueous vinyl polymer emulsion, a high molecular basic compound which, as such or as a salt, is soluble or emulsifiable in water, and a compound containing two or more reactive groups capable of reacting with the basic groups of the high molecular basic compound. Many high molecular basic compounds are specified including basic polyureas, basic polyamides, basic polyesters, basic polyurethanes, basic polystyrene, basic polyacrylonitrile, polyacrylates charged with basic groups by aminolyzing with di- or poly-amines, basic polymers obtained by hydrogenation of polymers containing nitro or nitrile groups, polyacrylonitriles converted to basic derivatives by boiling with polyamines, polyvinylamines obtained by saponifying polyvinyl succinimide or phthalimide by means of hydrazine hydrate, polyimines, cross-linked polyamines, basic polysaccharides, addition products of ethylene imine and hydroxyethyl cellulose or polyvinyl alcohol, and aminolysates of proteins.
