Abstract

724,091. Plate heat-exchangers. CREAMERY PACKAGE MFG. CO., Ltd. June 27, 1952 [June 3, 1951]; No. 15717/51. Class 64 (3). Relates to plate heat exchangers comprising a series of imperforate plates 1 with interposed gaskets 1a (eg. of the kind described in Specification 710,932) defining two series of rectangular, aligned, vertical up-flow and downflow passages respectively for a liquid to be cooled e.g. milk and a coolant such as water, the passages of one series being interposed between those of the other series. According to the invention means are provided to vent air from the series of passages carrying the liquid to be cooled said means comprising an air vent (e.g. 2, 4) in one top corner of each down-flow passage in communication with fluid-carrying ports 3 provided in the other top corner of the up-flow passages which ports serve also as air vents so that vented air is permitted to flow out of the apparatus in a zig-zag path by way of said vents and ports. In the apparatus shown, the vented passages for the liquid to be cooled are indicated by the letters A, C, E and G, the interposed passages for the coolant being indicated by the letters B, D and F. The dotted arrows indicate the flow of vented air.
