722,270. Loud-speakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BRITTAIN, F. H. Nov. 25, 1952 [Dec. 5, 1951], No. 28558/51. Class 40 (4). In a conical diaphragm for a loud-speaker, the resonant frequencies in the fundamental mode of some sectors is made to differ from that of others of the sectors by the forming of three louvres asymmetrically around the axis in the outer half of the diaphragm. The louvres 5, 6, 7, Fig. 3, are formed by making incisions in the diaphragm along a circle concentric with the outer edge and pushing inwardly the parts nearest the apex to form a pointed arch in which the curvature of each half arch are in opposite directions. The effects of such louvres on the performance of a loud-speaker are described with reference to Figs. 1 and 1b (not shown), and an embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), includes a rigid plug disposed within the cone of the diaphragm in accordance with the invention described in Specification 722,263. Dimensions of louvres suitable for improving the response of a 6-inch metal cone are included.
